DerbyshireShardlow Heritage CentreHoused in a former Salt Warehouse in the heart of this historic inland port on the River Trent. Audio and visual displays depicting canal and village life. With guided walks, suitable for groups, clubs and educational visits by arrangement.
Swarkestone BridgeAt nearly 3/4 of a mile long, Swarkestone Bridge is a unique medieval bridge crossing the Trent and its floodplain It is the longest stone bridge in the country. Crossing it by either on foot or by car is an exiciting architectural experience. The small irregular arches seen from the water meadows makes it an impressive sight. The road on Swarkestone Bridge is now the A514 between Swarkestone and Stanton by Bridge, south of Derby, and is open to traffic for free.
Repton ChurchRepton is known and sign posted as the capital of Mercia on the banks of the River Trent. St Wystan's Church, overlooking the river, contains a unique Saxon crypt which is one of the most important surviving pieces of Saxon architecture in England. It is well worth a look.
