Attenborough Gravel Pits Nature Reserve and Nature Centre
This Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve is a 360-acre complex of flooded gravel pits and islands providing ideal habitat for a wide range of plants, birds and other wildlife.
The eco-friendly visitor centre opened in March 2005 is a state of the art building on the site with a shop and reflections cafe from which you can view the reserve. The centre also houses education and conference facilities. Please visit the website for more information.

Netherfield Lagoons
A former mineral site that has developed into several wetland lagons with a variety of birds species and other widlife. It is a good day out with about 2 miles of footpaths and one steep climb. Unsuitable for the disabled at present.
Address: East of Nottingham City, just upstream from Stoke Bardolph, and opposite side of the river from Radcliffe on Trent. More details to be added later.

Besthorpe Nature Reserve
On the eastern bank of the River Trent to the north of Collingham village, Besthorpe is a former gravel extraction site that now has areas of open water, wet wildflower meadows with access around the edge of the reserve and to a tidal section of the River Trent.

Ferry Farm Country Park
A 20-acre farm park with rare birds and farmyard animals near to the River Trent.

Gunthorpe Lock
An important river crossing point for many years, the Trent Valley Way now crosses the river here. The section to the east of Gunthorpe is one of the most scenically beautiful on the River Trent.

Colwick Country Park

National Water Sports Centre
270 acres of country park, bordering the River Trent and 3 miles from Nottingham. Offers some of the most comprehensive water sports facilities in the world.

Newark Castle and Gilstrap Centre
Ruins of 12th century castle next to River Trent in the centre of Newark. Visitor centre with exhibition on castle’s history. Guided tours available.
