Biodiversity Mapping

Existing Wetland habitat maps along the Trent floodplain

OnTrent has worked with partners to develop a series of maps showing all the areas of wetland biodiversity along the floodplain of the River Trent. There are 26 maps in total extending from Knypersely Reservoir near the Head of the Trent in Staffordshire down to Alkborough at Trent Falls where it flows into the Humber Estuary. Wetland habitats shown on the maps appear as grassland, wet grassland, reedbed, fen/marsh or open water.

Opportunity maps along the Trent floodplain

The 'Opportunity' maps have been developed as part of the project to identify areas that have the potential for future wetland habitat enhancement. Opportunities highlighted in red have been put forward by a variety of different organisations and may relate to private or public land, gravel extraction or agriculture. The inclusion of any individual site as an opportunity does not in any way indicate the likelihood that a future project will take place. The landowner may not be aware of any site being included here.

The 'existing habitat' maps are available by clicking the maps link on the left. Each map appears as a thumbnail picture, please hold the curser over the picture to identify each map.

A report (please click onthe link to the right) describes the work undertaken and includes a data analysis of the extent and distribution of wetland habitats in 2010. Data was provided by a wide range of project partners along the Trent, including Local Record Centres, Wildlife Trusts, County Councils and Natural England.

OnTrent would like to acknowledge the support of Natural England in developing the Biodiversity Mapping Project.

There are 26 maps in total. They are available as picture files in the order shown below. To view or download a map please click on either Opportunity Maps or Existing Maps on the left.
